Assisteens are high school students who volunteer at least 40 hours each year in service to Assistance League and the Downey community. Assisteens support the chapter in many ways: purchasing and wrapping gifts for Christmas Distribution, assembling hygiene kits for children served by Operation School Bell, staffing the Second Tyme Around Thrift Shoppe once a month, and contributing to H.O.M.E.
Each Active and Provisional member commits to 40 hours of Assistance League and community service a year, including four hours in the Thrift Shoppe, three hours at Garden Day, and support for the Spring Tea & Fashion Show — the Assisteens’ largest annual fundraiser.
Junior and Senior Assisteens also attend Self-Improvement Day, spending over five hours learning interviewing skills, organizational skills, etiquette, and more. Regular meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month during the school year at the Chapter House.
