About Us

Welcome to the Assistance League of Downey informational center. We’ve been serving the citizens of Downey since 1953, when ten women came together under founding president Jane Strang. Today the chapter has grown to 155 members who volunteer more than 19,400 hours a year and support over 4,200 individuals in our community.

We offer volunteer and membership opportunities for men and women of all ages, as well as high school students through our Assisteens auxiliary. Assistance League of Downey is a chapter of National Assistance League, which assists 1.4 million people annually through 23,000 members and 121 chapters nationwide.

Assistance League of Downey is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that puts caring and commitment into action through philanthropic programs in the Downey community.
